Conditions Treated by an Optometrist

Optometrists provide comprehensive eye exams and treatment for various ocular conditions beyond vision correction. At Advanced Family Eye Care, our optometrists have advanced expertise in areas like keratoconus, irregular corneas, specialty contact lenses, eye strain relief, and pediatric vision care.

Keratoconus and Irregular Corneas

Keratoconus causes thinning and conical bulging of the cornea, leading to substantial vision distortion. Our optometrists are specially trained in diagnosing and managing keratoconus and other corneal ectasias or irregularities. We expertly fit specialized rigid gas permeable scleral and conical contact lenses to improve vision for these conditions when glasses cannot correct adequately. Our office offers the latest diagnostic technology like a profilometer and topographer instrument to take precise corneal measurements needed for properly customized scleral lens design and fitting.

Specialty Lens Fittings

In addition to keratoconus, we also fit scleral lenses for other eye conditions, like severe dry eye, recurrent corneal erosion, irregular cornea, and irregular astigmatism following surgery. These lenses vault over the entire cornea to provide a smooth optical surface and refract light cleanly for clear, comfortable vision. We use advanced measuring and fitting techniques to achieve optimal scleral lens fit.

Dry Eye Treatment

Dry eye syndrome causing irritation, redness, stinging, tearing, and visual fluctuations greatly impacts quality of life. Our doctors offer comprehensive dry eye treatment ranging from prescription anti-inflammatory eyedrops to punctal plugs, medications, lid hygiene, nutritional advice, and scleral lenses to protect the corneal surface and improve comfort.

Eye Strain and Fatigue Relief

With specialized lenses, prism glasses, and in-office vision therapy, we can reduce debilitating headaches, light sensitivity, neck/shoulder pain, blurry vision, and fatigue stemming from digital eye strain, convergence insufficiency, accommodative dysfunction, and binocular vision disorders. Our neurolens treatment can help optimize how the brain processes visual input to improve these symptoms.

Children's Vision Care

We offer pediatric eye exams to thoroughly assess visual development and prescribe treatment as needed. Our optometrists also provide Orthokeratology, a non-surgical method to temporarily correct myopia in children using overnight corneal reshaping lenses.
